Thankfully it's a duology this time

The second part of Monsters of Verity continues the story of August and Katherine a couple of months after the first book. Still the monsters are a threat and both protagonist do their work against them.
We learn quickly about a different type of monster in another town. But it's more of a glimpse into the issue of another town. The biggest threat is the FTF being led by a council who can't decide on a course forward and a new and old foe moving from the north to bring the fight to the FTF of the south. That not being all there is a mysterious other creature becoming a hard to grasp threat.
Our main characters found their own place but also not really. The personality of August in particular is pretty different and it was fun to read why but also what he is going to …

Katherine feels like she stands her ground more but also yearns for connection but at the same time not.
After roughly 30-50% of the book, we are full into the conflict in Verity and also the antagonists feel really clever and mastermind-y which is fun.
It's not like Monsters of Verity is a groundbreaking story or thought provoking but it's quite enjoyable, a goor read and brought me back into urban fantasy.
Compared to City of Nightmares/Cage of Dreams, also being in the urban fantasy genre, it was a different kind of fun.
